AA survey

A couple of weeks ago we had a little survey on AA (Anodized aluminum). We thought we would share some of the results, and what we are doing.

First up, for green. You overwhelmingly told us you wanted 2 shades of green. So that is what we are doing. In fact, the first (16g 1/4″) Dark green should show up in the next couple days, followed by light green (same size) late next week. As we run out of the single green we had in any given size, we will replace it with the light/dark combo.

Given the option of a matte black in addition to our current gloss black, it was close, but it looks like you want it. We will start on these sometime in the next month and a half or so.

For a new size, we asked if you would prefer 16g 7/32″ or 16g 3/16″. This wasn’t even close. 16g 7/32″ won hands down. Once we have most of the currently out of stock size and colors caught up, we will start on these. This puts it somewhere around summer.

There was not a lot of interest in an etched ring, so at this point we don’t intend to proceed with it. Don’t worry, as always if things change and more people express interest, we will look at it again.

There was a lot of interest in a UV reactive ring. So much so that we already have them, though currently only in 16g 1/4″. If the interest in these proves to be good, we will expand the sizes we do them in. These proved to be very hard to photograph, but under black light they glow a nice off white (reminds us of white out for some reason)

Now, we also had a comment section, and there was a single question that was put in far more than any other, or any comment, so we wanted to address it again.
The question was in regard to 20g AA, and if we were going to get more colors, if we were ever going to do them, or why we didn’t have any.
We have always been very open about these, and the fact we stopped doing them as we were not happy with them. Color inconsistency, splotching, and the color not matching close to the larger sizes. We have also always been open about the fact that if these were corrected to our satisfaction we would have another look at getting them done.
That being said, over the course of the last 2 months or so, there has been some improvements in the process used for our rings, and we think it’s time to try these again. Our plan is to have a test batch run in the next month or so. If they work out, we will start getting both 20g 1/8″ and 20g 5/32″ done in all our current colors. Until we know for sure if they will work out, we won’t speculate on a time frame, but know that we are looking at it.

As always, It’s in the Maille!

Shipping delays for niobium products

We are currently experiencing a small issue with our niobium wire supply, and any orders containing anything niobium are currently experiencing longer than normal shipping times. This extends to any orders placed this week. We are working hard to get this corrected and expect to have everything back to normal by the end of next week.

We do apologize for the delays

Copper overflow

Those of you that have been around  for a while know that we only put out 2 coupon codes a year.  (Make sure you watch your newsletter next month)  Well, we are giving you a little bonus now.

As we have mentioned in the past, we have all of our square wire milled for us, to our specifications.   When you order from a mill you accept the fact that your order will not be the exact quantity you ordered.  There is usually a +/- of up to 20%.  Today we received a new shipment of square copper wire and it was 50% over.  Woah, we were not ready for that.  So, we need to clear a little room as we have another 2 tons of wire showing up next week.

What does that mean for you?  How about 15%  off any copper square wire ring through the end of the month.

Use coupon code coppersq15 at checkout.

20g stainless steel rings

Many of you have kept after us to do 20g stainless steel rings.  If you have been around for a while, you know that we have tried.  We have had issues with the temper of the wire, we have had issues with the alloy, and pretty much anything else you can think of.  It has been very frustrating for us, and we are sure for you to, but you also know we won’t sell rings we aren’t happy with.

We are happy to say that is all over.  Once again we went right to a mill and had them make wire to our specifications.  So now, like all of our stainless square, our 20g round is now a 316L stainless (this is top of the line, surgical grade), half hard.   We literally purchased a ton of this wire, so no need to worry about us running out too quick.

This wire has just arrived, so it will take us a bit of time to get all the sizes coiled and cut, but rest assured we are working hard to get it done.

And remember, It’s in the Maille!

New rings, new findings, new prices.

Since we opened C&T Designs, the selection of BA rings we offer has always been the most complete.  Now that we have moved into a bigger space and made some other changes, we are changing that.  Shortly, all the sizes we offer in BA, will be available in all other metals.  We have already added 5 new sizes to our 18g bronze rings, and will have several new ones in red brass up later today.  Copper will follow that, then we will move on to 16g in all metals.  Then we will move onto 19g in all metals.  By the end of the month we should have a very complete selection of all rings.  If by chance you don’t see a ring size you would like, drop us a line and we will see what we can do.

By popular request we have added a new lobster claw clasp to our offerings.  15mm, 12mm and 9.5mm gunmetal clasps are now up and available in our findings section.

Now for the new pricing…..

Due to changes here we are happy to say we have been able to lower the price of our square stainless steel wire rings.  We have already changed them in 18g, and 20g will follow shortly.   We also have a couple new sizes planned, so keep your eyes open.

New square wire rings

We have received lots of requests to be able to make a square dragonscale with both rings the same gauge, and other than 20g. So with that we have made 18-M rings. Copper and stainless steel are already up in the store. Bronze and red brass will follow shortly.

We have also made a new size…..”N” Also up in the store in copper and stainless 18 gauge, with others to follow. This is the large ring we used to make the Viper basket below. (with a 18-G small ring)

The Help Zone

As promised, our weave chart is back up and in it’s new location……..The help zone……the zone of help.

In the zone, you will also currently find a square wire ring size chart.  Printed out this chart will show you actual size of our square wire rings.

Over the course of the next few days you will see many new additions to the weave chart.  First to show up will be the new patterns we have done in square wire.  Shortly thereafter you will start to see ring counts and size recommendations for weaves in round wire.  Want to know how many rings you will need to make a byzantine bracelet in 20g 7/64″ rings?  It will be here.

This chart will undergo some changes in the next few weeks as well, as we add more functionality to it.  Want to know what you can make with an 18g 9/32″ Ring?  It will be here.

We hope you gets lots of use out of this new resource, and as always, we would love to hear what you think.
