Artfire sneak peek

So, inaddition to our site here, we also sell on Artfire, as we have mentioned before.  We think this is a wonderful venue, and are really excited about some of their features, and some that are coming.

Yesterday they launched their Fusion studios.  These studios are the best we have seen for any market venue.  Every user gets to customize their own studio with their own look.  Colors, fonts, layout, widgets, all kind of cool stuff.  You can have a look at ours here.  And so you have something to compare it to, here is one that we really like.   Take a look at the bottom, they have a live feed to them actually working!  How cool is that.

Now for the really cool stuff.  Artfire has not “officially” announced it yet, but they will.  The free ride program is coming back, and the current $12 per month price will be locked in.  What’s this you say?

First off, if you sign up for Artfire, you will only pay $12 a month to sell.  No listing fees, no final value fees, no other hidden fees.  It’s $12 a month for LIFE, no matter how much you sell or list.  That beats ANY other venue that I know of.

Second, if you refer 12 people to Artfire, and they sign up for a verified account ($12 for life) you get a “Free ride”  You will pay nothing for as long as you hold your account.  Nada, zilch, zero, not a penny to sell as much as you want. But wait, there’s more.  Not only will you get a free ride, you get to pick a friend that will also get a free ride.  Doesn’t get much better than that.

Asking yourself how we know this?  Well, in addition to chainmaille we are secret agents.  We know all kinds of good stuff.  We could tell you what agency we work for, but you know how the saying goes.  :)

Stay tuned for more info as we learn it……

And remember, It’s in the Maille.

500th sale winner

While we were holding our 400 or 500? contest, we were keeping a secret.  I do that sometimes, it’s to keep you on your toes.  We decided our 500th sale on Etsy would get an extra surprise in their package.  We have done this a couple times now, and it’s always a blast for us.  That person completed their purchase this morning.  Congratulations to kareneliza008!

She happens to be a longstanding customer of ours who loves to work with jumprings.  Tiny jump rings to be exact.  I have made her lots of 22g 5/64″ in many different metals.  One of these days I hope she shows us what she makes.

In the mean time, she will be getting a nice assortment of jump rings to feed her muse as her prize.

We’d also like to take a moment to thank all of our customers.  No matter if you are a new customer, or a long standing one, we appreciate your business and the opportunity you give us everytime you order.  Without you we wouldn’t get to do what we love.

Remember, It’s in the Maille!

400 or 500?

Some of you may remember back in January we had a 200 or 250? contest/giveaway.  Well, it’s time for another.  This time it’s 400 or 500.  I figured since it is exactly double what we did last time, what better time to do another.

It’s going to work exactly the same way as the last one, but here it is again:

Right now we have a little under 500 sales and a little under 400 feedbacks for our Etsy store.  Starting right now and the time we reach BOTH 400 feedbacks AND 500 sales, I will take every name that has purchased something, or left a feedback in that time frame and have a little drawing.

But wait, there’s more…….

So there is “no purchase necessary” I will also take everybodies name who posts a comment here and add it in the mix.

FAQ:

How many prizes will there be?

I’m not telling.  There may be 1.  There may be 2.  There may be one for each group.

What will I win?

I’m not telling.  Don’t expect a $200 sterling silver bracelet though.

How will I know if I won?

I’m not telling.  (Do you spot a trend here?)

Ok, I’ll tell you that one.  I will post the winner(s) here on our blog.  If you have purchased/left feedback, well, I already have your address and I will send it to you.  If you leave a comment here and win, I will contact you for your address, so make sure you leave an e-mail (no I won’t spam you) address with your post, or you have one associated with your profile.

More rings added

We have updated the bronze section of our store with new sizes, stats and pricing.  They are now in line with the red brass we already did.  We also finished updating for all the niobium rings we have listed.  You will notice the bigest changes here.  We combined listings for a couple sizes that had listings for different colors, and we added more colors for all sizes, including un-anodized.  We do have a couple more sizes of bronze still to list, which should be done in a few days.  We also have 2 new square red brass jump rings that will be listed as soon as we pull them out of the tumblers and get pictures.

We will be doing aluminum rings next, which will be sometime next week.  If you havn’t see it already, have a look at the post I wrote up the other day.  You won’t believe how shiny the aluminum is now.  You simply won’t find a brighter “bright” aluminum anywhere.

Remember, It’s in the Maille!

Why tumbling media matters

We get a lot of comments on how shiny our rings are and ask what we do that is so different from others.  Well, let me tell you, what you use really does matter.  You see a LOT of people recommend blue Dawn soap, water and stainless steel shot.  We used to do that.  The results were pretty good, at least we thought so.  One of the things we did learn the hard way, and have seen others do the same, was that when you tumble bright aluminum, if you leave it in too long, it looses it’s “bright”.  It looks absolutely horrible.  Other metals were not quite as picky.

I’m naturally inquisitive and like to tinker, tumbling was no different.  I thought we could do better.  So I played with a lot of different formulas, mixtures, and liquids.

This is what BA looks like tumbled in blue dawn, water and stainless steel shot.

This is what we get with our new mixture.

Don’t see the difference?  Let me put them side by side for you.

Side by side comparison

Now you see it, don’t you.  This picture really doesn’t even show it very well.  This BA rivals sterling silver for the shiny factor.  This is the exact same piece tumbled in soap and water first, then tumbled in our mixture.  Other than sharpening the picture and sizing, there is no manipulation to the image.

One interesting thing we have learned with our experiments is that no matter how long we tumble our BA, it never goes dull and nasty like it did with the soap and water.  We can also easily take it from that dull nastiness to a silver shine in just a matter of a couple hours in our mixture.

What you choose to tumble your rings or finished pieces in really does matter.  Don’t be afraid to experiment and try something new.

And remember, It’s in the Maille.

New rings in stock

We are still working on getting all our bronze rings up on the site.  One last batch is in the tumbler getting all purdy for you, then they will all be added.  In the mean time we took the opportunity to add 3 new rings for you.  First up we have 2 new niobium sizes.  18g, 3/16 and 18g, 1/4″.  We have also started stocking a new anodized aluminum size as we have had a number of requests for it.  16g, 5/16″ is now available in limited quantities.  If these prove to be something you want us to keep, we will.

Remember, It’s in the Maille.

Rings, rings and rings

A lot of you have noticed we have been very quite of late.  Let me assure you while we may have been quiet, we have also been hard at work.

We have installed a new inventory program here so we can better track what we have in stock and what we need to order from our suppliers.  As some of you have already noticed, we have also started using it to print out our sales receipts.  We recently had to go from 1 day shipping to 2 days, but we hope these recent changes let us go back to 1 day.  Of course it will always be dependant on how many orders we have in cue at any time.

We have also been cutting LOTS of rings.  We are in the process of getting them all up on the web site, but if you want a look at what will be, have a look at the red brass section.  Not only have we listed all but a couple of what will be “stock” rings, we have changed how we display the information for our rings.  We believe this format is easier for you to read, and we have added a bit of information that was lacking before.  Soon all of the sections will look like this.

Now the really good news.  With all that we have done in the red brass section, and with the new inventory program, we took a look at our prices and made some changes.  Almost everything was lowered, and there is also now a 10% discount for anything over 1 oz.  As we add and update other sections, we anticipate being able to do the same thing to them.

Bronze will be the next section we work on, and that should be sometime next week.  Then look for the aluminum.  Somewhere between the two, we will also be adding some new niobium sizes.

As always, we welcome your suggestions and feedback.

And remember, it’s in the maille.
